the glory of humanity

I watched a video of Tao Sanfeng, a travel blogger who has cycled around the world for many years. During the ride, he crossed an Alpine pass into Switzerland. He encountered heavy snow on the way and was trapped on the mountain for several days, unable to move. Later, he had no food or drink, so he was forced to risk his way down the mountain. In a life-threatening situation, although he did not appear very nervous or scared, maybe he was inexperienced and did not feel the real danger, or maybe he was a little "crazy" as the name suggests. In the end, he was exhausted and lay down in the snow to rest. Fortunately, he met a ski team passing by.

What attracted me to the whole incident started here. A ski team of five or six people suddenly saw Tao Sanfeng appearing in the snow with a bicycle loaded with luggage. It can be said that they were shocked and couldn't understand how he appeared here. As Tao Sanfeng, he obviously felt like he had met a savior. He suddenly felt energetic. The ski team greeted him politely at first, and the communication was more cautious. They didn't know the origin of the other party. It was natural, and maybe a little wary. Then I carefully observed Tao Sanfeng and found something unusual. It was unbelievable that he could appear like this on this vast snow-capped mountain. After briefly asking about the situation, several members of the ski team felt admiration and surprise. Several female team members took a few photos as if they were taking photos with Internet celebrities. At this time, the exchanges between the two parties were mainly polite and friendly expressions, and they did not have a deep understanding of his situation.

Returning to Tao Sanfeng's perspective, as his behavior was somewhat unreasonable and he did not ask for help, my understanding of his reaction is that, first, maybe he is still a bit shy at heart, and his first reaction to the sudden encounter was that he was a bit shy. Being shy, he did not immediately shout for help. Faced with the polite politeness of the ski team members, he also said polite words, reluctantly took a photo with the female team members, and chatted normally, forgetting about saving lives while talking. . . Of course, maybe part of me felt that I could still hold on and walk to the bottom of the mountain. He actually planned to pass them by and go their separate ways. The last two members of the ski team did not leave immediately after saying goodbye to him, but watched him leave. I was slightly moved here. Concern from the heart does not require words. The two people started to talk a few words later, like a discussion. They probably found that something was wrong and he could not get down the mountain safely, so they returned to ask him if he needed help. Sometimes people's secondary reactions are the true reactions of human nature, and are the reactions after understanding the situation.

At this time, Tao Sanfeng also began to understand his situation. He put aside the superficial politeness and expressed directly that he needed rescue. So the rescue operation began. Both of them had no idea how to get him down the mountain. There were too many things, too heavy, and it was difficult. So the first few people also came back, and six people rescued him together. With more people, they unloaded all his luggage and divided it among six people to carry him down the mountain on skis. This was really a good use of professional skills. One person was carrying Tao Sanfeng. When he got tired, several people changed their backs, skating all the way, like a relay race.

Seeing this, I was touched again. I remembered that I was in Daocheng many years ago. I sprained my foot on the mountain and was unable to walk due to pain. It was already dark and it was about 5 hours of hiking from my accommodation. The local Tibetan who was hiking with me in the end carried me on the mountain road. There was nothing like that. The mountain road was difficult to walk, and it was dark, so they took turns carrying me on their backs. After descending the mountain, more than a dozen households in the village had their lights on, and they were all standing outside. There was a lot of people waiting for us, because they knew that we had gone up the mountain during the day and had not returned at midnight. It was already past 1 o'clock in the middle of the night. . .

When I got to the foot of the mountain, I saw so many people. Although the pain in my ankle made me grin, I still felt a warm current all over my body. Many people are trying to save you, and many people who don't usually communicate with each other are worried about you. I was really touched.

Returning to the incident of Tao Sanfeng, when they went down the mountain, the ski team could let Tao Sanfeng stay in the hotel on their own at this time. Then everyone dispersed because the rescue had been completed, but no, they asked him if he wanted to settle down at their home, wash, rest and eat. If the rescue was just for humanitarian reasons, so as not to have trouble with his conscience in the future, then they did not have to ask, and they were always concerned about it along the way. Ask him if he needs food and drink, reassure him that he is fine, don't worry, and quickly go down to the mountain. Under the conditions that it is no longer life-threatening and he can stay in a hotel, invite him to have a fire at home for a meal, so as to make him more comfortable. This kind of warm rescue is not only humanitarian, but also a little bit of radiance of human nature. It is more real and natural than being enthusiastic and fiery from the beginning.

Tao Sanfeng's experience can be remembered for a lifetime. It is the wealth in his life and stays with him throughout his life. Nowadays, many people are actually very rich materially, but they still torture themselves in material comparisons. They are spiritually barren, like a desert. In fact, they all live above the average line of material wealth and below the poverty line of life and wealth. They are stuck in the swamp of consumption for a long time and cannot extricate themselves. It is quite pitiful.

People often ask about the meaning of traveling and seeing the world. There is no standard answer to this question. For him, meeting touching people and things is one of the meanings. Human nature has many sides, and good and evil coexist. It cannot be simply distinguished by good and evil. However, it is a pleasure to discover the good sides and brilliance in multi-faceted human nature. Not to mention reincarnation, it is also a good thing for your own life experience in this life.

I also have some thoughts. I did see the goodness of human nature in this incident. Regarding whether human nature is good or evil, Wang Dongyue wrote this. The human nature of most people depends on social nature. If this social nature is good, human nature will follow good. If social nature is evil, human nature will follow evil.

What is sociality? If a social environment allows people with good deeds to live better and better, then the social nature is good. On the contrary, people with good deeds will be squeezed and bullied everywhere in society, and may even be unable to survive. In the end, people will not choose kindness, because survival is fundamental, and this social nature is evil. (Please compare this with our current social environments)

I very much agree with it, and it has allowed me to more clearly understand the interaction between people and the social environment, eliminating a lot of entanglements and torture in life.

One more thing I would like to add is that no one will always be good, and no one will always be evil. Evil people will also have a good side under certain circumstances, and vice versa. Many people who perform touching acts of kindness at a certain moment may be ordinary people in life, with various problems, and even selfish people, but their good side may be inspired at a certain moment under special circumstances. Just like the ski team in the incident, when they returned to their daily lives, everyone may have their own annoying shortcomings and problems, but at that moment, they performed a series of touching acts of kindness.
